Remember, my love, how innocently it all started, a few cards with black hearts appearing among the more traditional selections of Vie Amoureuse Day cards? The I-Hate-Love books released during the ides of February? Candy hearts started appearing with anti-love messages. The newly divorced gathered at parties for the ritual burning of their marriage certificates. Vie Amoureuse vandalism was minor back then, graffiti spray-painted on florists’ delivery floaters: VD Sucks!
It turned ugly. Slashed tires. Jewelry shop windows painted over in black. Gangs of singles barging into nice restaurants to dump buckets of salty ice water over dining couples. We’d have been among the casualties that time at The Savoy Truffle if we had been sitting one table closer to the door...

| This story veered away from where I thought it was going. I saw a parody of human society coming, how we seem to be a naturally bitter and cynical society. Humor used to come from witty retorts and slapstick, but not it's always sarcasm and abuse. The ending pulled away from this though. Not a bad read, but I had expected the ending to be somewhat more profound. |

The story has its witty moments. I admire the brave foray into 2nd person. I was told by a collegue that it's called '2nd Person' because only two people have pulled it off successfully (and nobody's sure who the second guy was).
But short stories are where we experiment, right? So congratulations.
Next, the ending didn't quite fit the whimsical tone of the body. I think the piece worked without all the alien world mumbo-jumbo. It was more entertaining to contemplate an anti-Valentine's Day here on earth.
