Liz Clarke

Liz Clarke has contributed several pieces of work that we at Aberrant Dreams have deemed to use as cover art.  The first of which is titled, The Crowning, and dons the cover image of this very issue. She is a  freelance illustrator and (as yet unpublished) author, and resides in Cape Town, South Africa. From the age of 9, Liz knew she wanted to be an artist, and when she started reading fantasy and SF books a few years later, all those lovely book covers steered her in the right direction.  Professionally, she studied art at school and has a diploma in commercial art.  Please visit her portfolio online at www.lizclarke.co.za

What was the last book you read?
Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett

What musical style do you prefer?
Rock/punk

What hobbies do you have?
Collecting music, writing, playing guitar badly, reading, watching fantasy/SF TV and films.

If you could be any mythical creature, what would you be?
A dragon.

What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Homemade vanilla ice-cream.

If they were to make a movie about you, who would play you?
I have absolutely no idea, so I’ll be vain and say Keira Knightley.

Do you have a nickname?
Liz is short for Elizabeth – otherwise, no.

Favorite toy as a kid?
Dinosaur figurines.

If you had one wish, what would it be?
That travel was instantaneous, so you could pop over to another country for a day’s shopping, or a rock concert, and then come home to sleep in your own bed and no planes were involved. If I used it for something serious: that governments, business and the environment could become compatible systems, to the benefit of the environment.

What artist influenced you the most?
Probably Geoff Taylor. His art is on the majority of books I own.
