The first thirty seconds of Monster Man unfolds with intense images of an unknown villain slowly crushing a man’s head in a bench vise. The scene completely belies the rest of the movie.

In Monster Man, Adam and Harley travel through a backwoods area of America so that Adam can confess his long-time crush to Betty Ann before she marries. Through these backwoods, they encounter a monster driving a monster truck and a cornucopia of hillbilly amputees. However, a bright star emerges when they pick up a hitchhiking hottie named Sarah who likes to impersonate Yoda during sex, “Oh, I feel the force flowing through you.” Yoda voice included.

What first appears to be bad dialogue and bad acting horror soon reveals itself to be corny dialogue and over-acted comedy. The early fight scene between the two buddies, Adam and Harley, sets the comedic tone for the rest of the movie. B-movie’s are usually more scary than funny, so let’s make it funny.

While moments of suspense are plenty, the gore in the movie just adds to the comedy: the dead body stashed in their car, Harley and the dead cat, and Brother Fred.

Sadly, the cover of Monster Man probably keeps more people away than it draws. A monster driving a monster truck? But this one is definitely a renter, so pull it from the shelf, hold it high above your head, and let all know: “I got your Rosebud!”
